The Treadstone Resurrection by Joshua Hood

The Treadstone Resurrection by Joshua Hood is the best series debut since Matthew Betley's Overwatch. Hood uses the Treadstone program created by Robert Ludlum in the Jason Bourne series to introduce us to a new operative, Adam Hayes.

Hayes has left the CIA’s Treadstone program and is now working as a carpenter in the Pacific Northwest. He receives an email from a former fellow operative followed shortly by an attack from a hit team at his job site. Hayes dispatches the hit team, but if he is going to survive he's going to have to regain the skills and reflexes that made him one of the most efficient killers in the world. Figuring out who is after him is step one. Figuring out their agenda is step two. Getting ahead of them and putting an end to the threat once and for all is the final step.

Hood takes the action across the United States and down into South America. When someone talks about adrenaline-fueled action, this is the book they're talking about. Hood puts the pedal to the metal on page one doesn't let up until the final page. He excels at action-packed firefights and fight scenes. Hayes has to battle not only the operatives out to kill him, but an array of corrupt officials in two countries. He is also cut off from much of the logistical support he used to receive from a fully functioning Treadstone program.

Adam Hayes is a great character who is destined to take his place alongside some of the best action heroes in the business like Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp, and Logan West. The writing is crisp and keeps the story moving at a frenetic pace. Hood uses quiet moments to sketch more detail on the background of Adam’s life and what has led him to this point. The government officials in Washington aware of his existence are painted either in black or shades of grey. Some of their motives are clear while others are a little murkier. The complicated motivations lay the foundation for a series that should have a long run.

The Treadstone Resurrection is one of the best series debuts and is certain to be one of the top thrillers of the year. Thriller fans are going to love this one and anxiously await the next book in the series. Hood has a clear winner on his hands. Highly recommended.
